In a free society drug use is legal
To live in a free society means that freedom is presumed. The burden of proof rests with the person who seeks to ban something and make it illegal. In a free society we presume that something is allowed unless it can be shown that it is a crime... that is to say that it can be shown to hurt other people. Something that doesn't hurt other people only (potentially) the protagonist is drug use. The only direct victim of drug use is the user which means there is no victim in law. If people are affected indirectly there may be a crime relating to that but not to the drug use. Since drug use is not criminal it should be legal. In a free society everything which is not harmful to someone else is legal. Everything is legal unless it can be shown to harm others and by definition drug use harms only the user and so we can deduce that it is legal in a free society.
