We rely on other people
The concept of Karma is often taken to mean that if we do bad things then there will be consequences. Whilst this may be true it is more instructive to realise that there is a requirement to do good rather than merely avoid doing bad things. If we fail to do good and be nice to people then we will not receive favours from them in return. And if we make the assumption that eventually at some point we will rely on other people helping us then to have failed to have done good will mean that they will not help us. We need other people and if we have done good to them in the past then they will be much more likely to help us.
