Farming is good because we cannot get the sack

As far as earning money is concerned there are two primary means to survive. We can either support ourselves by growing produce on our own land or we can work for someone else. Farming has the immediate advantage that we do not rely on the 'permission' of another person for our wealth. We can work the land on our own (or with accomplices) without anyone being in a position to eject us from our land. All other methods by which we can make an income depend on our being employable. Even if we are working in an industry where our labour is heavily in demand there is always a risk that we will be terminated. With farming we cannot get the sack and for that reason it is preferable to more traditional means of income.
