It is a simple observation of reality that organisms including people (human organisms) are selfish. So given this fact do we deduce that reality is bad? Clearly reality is not bad so then neither is selfishness. Reality is selfishness and neither are bad.
Optimists are people who expect good things to happen. Given the world is selfish does that mean bad things are inevitable? No because selfishness is not incongruent with good things happening... selfishness is not bad so optimists are correct in their expectations. Selfish people are optimists and optimists are selfish.
